The first call I make when I need service for my Road King is to Bob at Lucky Clover Cycles. If you ever told me I’d be sending my bike half way across the country for a rebuild, I would have laughed in your face.
But many months of talks and research at local bike shops, dealerships, blogs, online searches and questioning other riders left me with nothing but conflicting information. Then I found Lucky Clover Cycles. Bob gave me more reliable info in a shorter period of time than all of the others combined. His knowledge was the best of what I’d gleaned from all of the others put together and the resources that he brought to the table were nothing but top-shelf.
We started with an 88-cubic inch Harley factory motor and built it to 98 inches. Not only does it smoke all of my friends’ bigger inch motors, but it can even stand my bagger right up! Even fully loaded and two-up, I’ve got more power than I can use with 100 HP to the back wheel.
It was definitely worth the extra travel to have it done right and get the strongest, best running, most bulletproof motor I’ve ever had.
Let me start by saying that I’ve been riding Harleys for nearly 25 years. In that time, I have come across a lot of people that call themselves Harley mechanics. I have also used several dealerships in the greater Daytona Beach area and paid their crazy prices.
No one that I have come across has been more detailed and in-tune to what the customer wants as Bob McNamara at Lucky Clover Cycles. He has gone out of his way to be sure that my bike was fixed right the first time and that I was happy.
So in a time when Harleys are popular and every one calls themselves a “mechanic”, I strongly stand behind my recommendation of Bob at Lucky Clover Cycles.
It is rare these days to find an independent craftsman who is passionate about his work; in this case, Bob McNamara of Lucky Clover Cycles. Over the past year, I got to know and trust, and indeed marvel, at his skill and lifelong love of taking motorcycles to their maximum potential both mechanically and aesthetically; he had performed numerous small improvements on my almost brand-new 2013 Sportster, a bike that was infused by the Harley factory with almost zero character.
This year, Bob helped me realize my (and his) ultimate vision for that bike, and his ambitious master plan came together: a complete “bob-job” of my bike to take it back to its roots, the old school. Bob researched and bought the parts, chopped the factory frame, replacing it with a classic hard tail, adding an old school spring seat, open battery tray, steel oil tank, handlebars, grips, etc. The results speak for themselves! Bob’s attention to the tiniest of details was much in evidence: nothing was overlooked, including the removal of that God-awful factory chrome and paint, with the surfaces ending up with a rusty beautiful old-look patina.
When he rolled the completed project out onto the shop floor for me, what I was most excited about was Bob’s own childlike excitement and enthusiasm for this months-long rebuild. It was worth the wait – the bike is simply incredible! I am as proud of my “new” bobber as Bob is. It is a head turner on the streets of Daytona and Port Orange! Bob told me absolutely loves this bike, and SO DO I!
